Justin Bieber only backed NHS choir for Christmas No:1

'Call me a cynical old hag': Kate Garraway claims Justin Bieber only backed NHS choir for Christmas No1 because he 'was going to lose anyway'

In it to not win it: Speaking on Thursday's Christmas Eve edition of Good Morning Britain, the 48-year-old host controversially questioned Justin's motives in kindheartedly supporting the track

The annual race for Christmas number one is heating up.
And it appears the competition is between two very contrasting competitors - Justin Bieber and The Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Choir with just 622 sales between the duo.
However after Justin tweeted his support for the charity single, TV presenter Kate Garraway has cynically slammed the gesture as she claims the 22-year-old hitmaker is only backing the track because he knows he has lost already.

Speaking on Thursday's Christmas Eve edition of Good Morning Britain, the 48-year-old host controversially questioned Justin's motives in kindheartedly supporting the track.
She said: 'Call me a cynical old hag but is he just doing that because he was going to lose anyway.'

On Wednesday, the Canadian singer told fans in a series of tweets to support the choir, who are raising money for charity as opposed to pushing his own contender, Love Yourself.
The kindhearted star went as far as sharing a link to the website to buy the single in a bid to boost sales of the track.

He wrote: 'I'm hearing this UK Christmas race is close...but the @Choir_NHS single is for charity. So... so for 1 week it's ok not to be #1.
'Let's do the right thing & help them win. It's Christmas. @Choir_NHS good luck'
And while many were humbled by Justin's gesture, it appears Kate wasn't sold on the sentiment as the race heats up for the coveted number one spot.

The NHS single is a mash-up of cover of Fix You by Coldplay and Bridge Over Trouble Water by Simon & Garfunkel where all proceeds from the track go toward the NHS.
This is the closest race since 2009, when Rage Against The Machine's single Killing In The Name was pitted against The X Factor winner Joe McElderry's The Climb.

But barring a last-minute surge, this year's X Factor winner Louisa Johnson is unlikely to have a look-in for the hotspot.
The blonde beauty is currently sitting at number seven in the chart after managing to shift just 39,000 copies in its first week of sale.
Of the 11 previous X Factor winners, seven went on to achieve Christmas number ones, whilst the remaining winners still reached chart success.
Martin Talbot, Chief Executive of the Official Charts Company, said: 'As well as climaxing on Christmas Day for just the fourth time in history, this year's race for the festive Number One is looking like one of the closest ever.
